BOBI awards 2019 THIN

We are delighted to share news that THIN has been shortlisted as a finalist for a BOBI Award.

The BOBI (Best of British Intelligence) Awards recognise excellence across the business intelligence spectrum in categories including Best Use of Innovation, Best Patient-Centric Approach, Best Customer Insight and Best Business Impact.

THIN has been highly commended in the category of Best Use of Innovation and shortlisted as a finalist for the award ceremony that will take place next month.

THIN's award submission was around the use of anonymised unstructured data (free text) in the THIN Database using machine learning.

In order for advancements to be made in healthcare, new insights need to be delivered to those in the medical arena. THIN's project aimed to do just that, and provide the information needed to improve patient outcomes.

Samir Dhalla, Operations Director for THIN comments:

The challenge was to utilise technology to anonymise unstructured data in the THIN database. To produce this at scale required developing an agnostic tool that met Health Data Research UK’s objectives, and the requirements of the NHS Long Term plan.

Through the successful creation of this tool, potentially more beneficial outputs are possible for those in the UK Healthcare space, academic institutions and the life sciences industry..”

Huge thanks and recognition goes to the team that worked on this project. Our Enterprise Architect Colin Ashworth, our Database developers Anna Porter & Andy Myatt, and our Scrum Master Alex Atkinson.

The award ceremony takes place in May and we can’t wait to find out if we’ve won.
